JOHN GRAY

John Gray

All of my work is publicly available on Instagram:  John Gray, @flycastr1

John is a self-taught wood sculptor/carver who, in 2017, discovered the world of art a bit late in life, carrying on a family tradition started by his late grandfather, Ed. When Ed passed away, he left behind a trove of chisels, knives, rotary tools and bits. John decided that someone in the family ought to at least try his hand at continuing the legacy. John started with small wooden crosses and some simple relief carvings, but quickly realized the vast subject matter available by simply walking through a park or natural area here in Northern Colorado.

A lifelong lover of all things outdoors, but especially fly fishing, John's primary focus is on creating trout carved in walnut, cherry, mahogany, and alder, in addition to painted replicas of the various birds found both here in Colorado and elsewhere. Don't be surprised to see an occasional miniature of one of the big cats (panthers, jaguars, etc.), or a sea turtle.
